Nursing and HCA Conference

For some time now, we have sought to promote closer links and collaboration with the Senior Nursing and Midwifery teams at King’s College Hospital, with the aim to raise the profile of King’s College Hospital Nurses’ League and to establish closer lines of communication between both parties. To that end Moyra Heggie and Chrissie Spiers from the Educational Grants Trust met with Tracey Carter and other senior staff from the Trust for over a year to help plan the conference. It was sponsored by the Nurses’ League and took place at the King’s Academy at Loughborough Junction on 7th November 2025.

Delegates were welcomed by Tracey Carter – Chief Nurse and Executive Director for Midwifery, and Jenny Coleman – President of the Nurses’ League. The keynote speaker – Prof Nicola Ranger – RCN General Secretary and Chief Executive, set the tone for the day with her inspirational address on national changes and development opportunities for nurses and HCAs. Following on from Nicola an interesting and varied programme included an update on Sepsis management and Martha’s Rule, talks on Workplace planning, staff safety and wellbeing and diversity took us to presentations by nurses and HCA’s about their career pathways and showcased quality improvement projects initiated at ward level.

Everyone was very positive about the day and the presentations, and the Nurses’ League had an opportunity to tell current staff about the benefits of League membership. We offered a free raffle and other goodies to the delegates who visited our stand and were pleased that several nurses completed their membership applications to join the League.
